About the Department
The Department of Secondary Education, K-12 Education and Educational Technology within the School of Education focuses on preparing future educators through comprehensive and immersive experiential programs. Emphasizing equitable instructional practices, innovative teaching strategies, and technology integration, it equips students with the skills needed to excel in diverse educational settings, fostering academic and personal growth.
Position Summary
The School of Education at MSU Denver invites applications for a tenure track faculty member to teach in the dynamic, growing, and diverse K-12 Physical Education teacher preparation program (PETE). This position will focus on teacher preparation with possible supervision of field experiences.

MSU Denver has a robust mentoring program for tenure-track faculty. The candidate will be enrolled in the Roadrunner Faculty Academy during their first year. This is a year-long course designed to support new faculty navigate faculty life and thrive in teaching, scholarly activity and service.
Responsibilities
- Teach 9 semester hours of day and/or evening in-person, hybrid or online courses in undergraduate K-12 Physical Education Teacher Education major
- Teach a wide variety of K-12 PETE courses which may include Risk Prevention, Elementary Methods, Adapted PE, Team and Individual and Dual Activities, PE/HE for Elementary Teachers, Fields, Student teaching
- Advising and support for undergraduate students; five schedule hours per week
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues in the K-12 PETE program on program and course development and evaluation
- Develop positive reciprocal relationships with Denver metro area schools and agencies in the community to actively support the success of effective P-12 physical educators
- Research and service to the Department, School, University and professional community
- Develop and implement a research agenda that includes publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts and presentations at peer-reviewed professional conferences
- Program recruitment and retention efforts
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate in Physical Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Kinesiology, or related field. ABD (all but dissertation) candidates are welcome to apply, however the required degree must be conferred by August 2026
- Experience with and commitment to the educational needs of population-dense/urban areas, including first-generation, adult, working, and other identity representations
- Minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience teaching elementary physical education in an elementary school setting (public, private, charter, K-5, K/P-6, K/P-8)
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate or terminal degree in Physical Education Pedagogy with an emphasis on Curriculum and Instruction, Equity and Diversity, or Educational Leadership
- 4 or more years of full-time experience teaching elementary physical education in an elementary U.S. (public or charter) grades P-2 in a population dense/urban community school setting
- Demonstrated effectiveness in a teacher preparation program as a faculty member in a physical education teacher preparation program teaching elementary methods courses
- Experience teaching a wide variety of courses in the major
- Supervision of PETE teacher candidates and/or experience as a mentor teacher or teacher leader/evaluator
- Understanding of national/state standards in PETE and PE; state or school district-wide initiatives for physical education and education trends
- Demonstrated leadership positions (adult/youth programming, school leadership, family/caregiver communications)
- Demonstrated experience and commitment meeting the educational needs of students from a population dense/urban population, diverse student populations including traditional, first generation, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, Latinx, adult, military, second career, second chance, concurrent high school/college students, and students with mental health, learning, or physical differences
- Demonstrated leadership working with urban schools and/or Denver-Metro area schools to develop positive relationships and partnerships
- Demonstrated Trauma Informed practices
- Demonstrated Justice, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging practices
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and participate as a part of a collective team culture and advancement of the mission, vision, values of the program
- Demonstrated understanding and advocacy around laws and policies for PETE education of current issues in the profession of K-12 PETE in Colorado and Nationally
- Demonstrated continuous professional development
- Experience teaching in Canvas or similar online course delivery system and navigating and reporting in advising systems
- Experience facilitating online meetings in Teams or similar
- Experience utilizing technology for social media platforms, marketing, recruiting and retention

Salary for Announcement
The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $74,000. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.
